Catholic School Board looking at changing trustee wards

Grande Prairie and Catholic District Schools are looking to have their board of trustees better reflect their student population. It’s proposed that for the next election in October 2017 there only be two wards.

The first would remain Grande Prairie, Beaverlodge and Sexsmith, while Spirit River and Fairview would be combined. Based on current enrolment, Ward 1 would have have roughly 4,500 students, while Ward 2 would have 420.

The board is still looking for feedback through a series of community meetings. There are five left, with Grande Prairie’s set for February 3rd at the district board office. A full list can be found here.

The bylaw has been given first reading.
