Sawed-off shotgun, brass knuckles seized during vehicle search in Fox Creek

A sawed-off shotgun and brass knuckles were reportedly seized by police following a vehicle search near Fox Creek earlier this week.

Whitecourt RCMP said while patrolling Highway 43 in the MD of Greenview, near Fox Creek on April 6,  Mounties came across a damaged vehicle in a roadside pullout. Police say the driver appeared to be slumped over the steering wheel. Officers then approached the vehicle to check on the drivers wellbeing.

When speaking to the driver, police say the officers observed contraband items that were set in plain view. Police then arrested the driver, and conducted a vehicle search.

As a result of the search, police allegedly seized a sawed-off .410 shotgun and ammunition, a set of aluminum brass knuckles, and drug paraphernalia.

As a result of the investigation, police arrested a resident of Spirit River, and was charged with numerous firearm and weapon-related offences.

“The mandate of the Alberta RCMP Traffic Units is to enhance public safety by reducing harm and hazardous behaviours on Alberta roadways” said Sgt. Gregory Anderson, NCO i/c of the Alberta RCMP Traffic – Whitecourt Unit. “This is done through partnerships, enforcement, education and crime reduction initiatives.”

The accused is set to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Whitecourt on April 28.
