Valhalla Community School put on lockdown

For almost two hours yesterday Valhalla Community School was put into lockdown. There was an altercation in Valhalla Centre that involved firearms, and as a precaution, RCMP advised the school to lock down.

Principal Steve Mumert says they regularly do drills and teachers and students knew to stay in the classes with the lights off and stay out of sight of windows and doors. Everyone was cooperative and calm, and when the police incident ended peacefully, the lockdown was lifted.

It reportedly involved a person with mental health issues who was taken into custody and at no point was the school or its students in danger. The lockdown lasted from 11:08 a.m. to 12:50 p.m.
