NWP, U of A set to open new anatomy lab at Grande Prairie campus

The University of Alberta and Northwestern Polytechnic are set to open a new anatomy lab on the polytechnic’s Grande Prairie campus.

Officials say the lab will support students in the University of Alberta’s Northern Alberta Medical Program, as well as hundreds enrolled in health-related programs at Northwestern Polytechnic.

The program is part of a provincially funded effort to train more physicians for northern communities.

The new space includes an Anatomage table, donated by the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation. The technology allows students to study life-sized digital models of the human body and observe how organs and systems function.

Officials say the facility is the northernmost anatomy lab in Canada and is intended to expand access to medical training outside major urban centres.
