Fox Creek mayor invites premier to see issues first hand

The Mayor of Fox Creek believes both the oil and gas industry and the provincial government are turning a blind eye to serious issues in the area. There have been 367 seismic events in the town since January 2015, the latest a 4.4 magnitude quake felt on Tuesday.

Despite that, Jim Ahn feels the government safe guards in place aren’t working, adding that they’ve had water shortages due to levels in their aquifers. He also has issues with industry pulling water from rivers, streams, and lakes at an unsustainable rate.

Ahn says they’re having trouble attracting families and businesses to town due to negative headlines. They’ve spent millions of dollars building a multi-use recreation facility and a local company donated more than $800,000 to build an activity park. The next project will be $15 million worth of upgrades to their water system.

An invite to visit has been extended to Premier Rachel Notley but with no response yet.
