Grande Prairie Kidney Foundation to host second Kidney Connect Thursday

The Grande Prairie Kidney Foundation is looking forward to hosting their second kidney connect peer support group on Thursday.

According to organizers, the Kidney Connect sessions will allow locals in the community to come together and talk about their journey with kidney health that they have encountered themselves or knew a family or friend that struggled with kidney disease.

The Kidney Foundation hosted their first session back in January. Community Engagement Manager, Krysta Gendreau said that the first event went fantastic.

“The feedback was really great, people like myself are just looking for someone to connect with. It can be a lonely journey to go through by yourself, and people want to connect and make some friends,” Gendreau said.

The session will take place on Thursday, March 12 at the Grande Prairie Public Library from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Gendreau added that if you do plan on attending, but are worried about speaking about your journey, to not worry.

“We would rather someone come for 20 minutes rather then not at all. No one is going to make you talk, if you want to share a little bit about yourself you can. If not, you can listen to others about their experiences.”

The upcoming sessions are expected to be hosted at the GPPL every other month; May 21, July 16, Sept. 17, and November 19th.

There is no registration required, for more information on the event, you can head to their Facebook page.
