Laser pointed at plane inbound to Grande Prairie

An Air Canada flight coming in to Grande Prairie was hit by a laser strike Monday night. Just before 9 p.m. a green laser was pointed at the Jazz flight from Calgary for about 10 to 15 seconds.

Aiming a laser at an aircraft is a federal offence, as it could distract pilots, create glare or cause temporary blindness. The incident has been reported to both Transport Canada and the Grande Prairie RCMP, who believe the light came from the Grovedale area.

A conviction for pointing a laser at an plane can come with up to $100,000 in fines, 5 years in prison, or both.
