Registration is set to open next month for the 52nd Annual Archie Harvey Memorial Golf tournament.
Member of the planning committee for the tournament, Brandi Hardy said last year registration sold-out within a week.
Hardy added that the participants tend to have-fun despite what the weather may look like.
“It’s a great time, we have a lot of fun. We have golfed in rain, snow, sun, it is always a fantastic time. It’s a great way to help our community, knowing that the money raised is staying here,” she said.
The tournament is named after a former Grande Prairie RCMP officer, who was killed in the line of duty in 1967. At first, the tournament was only open to law enforcement, but since then, the tournament has expanded to the public.
According to the planning committee, all of the money raised from the tournament will be going back into the community. This year, the Grande Prairie Special Olympics will be seeing a chunk of the donations. Funds will also be distributed to local school boards breakfast programs, as well as two bursaries at Northwestern Polytechnic.
Hardy mentioned that the tournament is still looking for some more sponsors before registration opens in March.
The tournament is slated to tee-off on July 24th, at the Dunes golf course.
