Bus route possible from Clairmont to Grande Prairie

Travelling by bus to Clairmont and back may soon be a possibility. The Director of the FCSS, Kathleen Turner says in her new bus route proposal that she would like to see the city and the county work together on the project. Turner says there is a benefit for both parties.

“Residents from both the county and the city would have access to employment opportunities…shopping, medical, educational opportunities, [and] social activities. There would be benefits for residents of both municipalities.”

Turner says so far the first bus route would have 4 possibilities for bus stops. She also says she would like to see the project completed and running by summer 2017. The County would use their GreenTrip grant to get the project started.

Mayor Bill Given says City Administration will be continuing the conversation with the county to come up with an operating agreement for further consideration from City Council.

“As we extend urban services outside of city limits, it means we are essentially supporting the development of another city [or] urban centre on our boundary. I think City Council would like the think carefully about that.”

Given says if the City is involved in the operation, liability could also be an issue.
