David Suzuki visits Site C protest camp

David Suzuki has joined Site C protesters at a historic Fort site near Hudson’s Hope. The environmentalist spent several hours at the camp Tuesday, where member of Treaty 8 First Nations have been holding a peaceful demonstration since New Year’s Eve.

In a statement, Suzuki says it makes no sense for the B.C. government to forge ahead with the $9 billion dam. He criticizes the province for giving the green light to construction when there are still three ongoing court cases against the project.

Grand Chief Stewart Phillip, President of the Union of B.C. Indian Chiefs, also made the trip, arguing the dam will cause irreparable harm to the environment, destroying archaeological sites and prime farmland.
