Impaired driving charges laid in connection to fatal rollover

Impaired driving related charges have been laid after a single vehicle rollover which claimed the life of a 16-year-old last year.

The Beaverlodge RCMP said officers were dispatched to a single-vehicle rollover on Township Road 712 at Range Road 82 on September 6th. A pickup truck occupied by three people was located at the scene. One of the occupants, a 16-year-old female Beaverlodge resident, was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS.

Beaverlodge RCMP, with assistance from the Grande Prairie General Investigations Section, the Grande Prairie RCMP forensic identification section, Alberta RCMP collision analysts and Alberta RCMP laboratories, investigated the circumstances leading to the collision. Police determined the driver was impaired at the time.

On Feb. 1, 2026, Beaverlodge RCMP arrested and charged a 21-year-old man from Goodfare, Alta., with impaired driving causing death, operation of a motor vehicle causing death and criminal negligence causing death.

“Files like these are a sad reminder of the effects impaired driving can have on families and communities” said S/Sgt. Matthew Short, NCO I/C of Beaverlodge RCMP and Grande Prairie Rural RCMP. “Please take the time to consider alternate transportation options before going out and consuming alcohol.”
