Woman leads police on chase through Grande Prairie

A woman is facing multiple charges after leading police on a chase through Grande Prairie yesterday. An officer reportedly found Tara Lee McInnis slouched behind the wheel of a truck in the parking lot of the Mac’s on 100th Avenue around 2:30 p.m.

When they tried to wake her up, she quickly put the vehicle into reverse and hit a police cruiser. She then drove over a snow bank, almost hit someone walking, and then sped down 99th Avenue in the wrong direction.

Mounties lost the vehicle by the casino, but later found it parked on 115A Street and 82nd Avenue. McInnis was outside of truck at the time and started banging on the door of a nearby home when she spotted police. They were able to arrest her without any more trouble.

The 26 year old is charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, flight from police and 10 counts of property obtained by the proceeds of crime. She is also facing charges of theft under $5,000 and theft of a motor vehicle stemming from a separate incident at the Coca Cola Centre on December 13th.

She’s now in police custody waiting for a bail hearing.
