Volunteers needed as Salvation Army hits Kettle Campaign halfway mark

The Salvation Army in Grande Prairie is stepping up its call for kettle volunteers with fewer than two weeks remaining in the Christmas campaign and just over half of its $675,000 fundraising goal reached.

The Salvation Army has raised $367,150 as of December 16th, or 54 per cent of the overall goal.

“If you’re able to make a donation, it will go a long way to reach our goal,” said Capt. Peter Kim, executive director and community services officer for The Salvation Army in Grande Prairie.

“Every person who donates any amount can make this campaign a success. Together we are giving hope today.”

Kim said kettle volunteers are critical to the campaign’s success, as donations increase significantly when kettles are staffed. All funds raised through the kettles stay in Grande Prairie to support Salvation Army programs during the Christmas season and throughout the year.

Those programs include the food bank, community kitchen, emergency disaster services and children and youth initiatives such as summer camps and Christmas assistance, including food hampers and toys.

Kettles are set up at Prairie Mall, grocery stores and other major locations across the city, with donations accepted by cash or cheque, as well as credit and debit using tap-to-pay.

Kettles will operate across the city, except Sundays, until Christmas Eve and will be accepted all the way up until December 31st online or in person at the Salvation Army office. Volunteers can sign up by calling 780-296-3946 or by registering online
