No Face Off Against Cancer hockey tournament in 2016

The Canadian Cancer Society won’t be holding its Face Off Against Cancer event this year. Revenue Development Coordinator Christy Ravndahl-George says they’ve seen too much staff turnover recently.

“Unfortunately we have a limited physical presence right now in the community. We had some Revenue Development Coordinators leave the organization so we were not able to pull together the necessary support and resources for the tournament.”

Those include volunteers, referees and scorekeepers. Although the hockey tournament has helped raise more than $200,000 over the past five years, Ravndahl-George says they have other plans to bring in funds.

“We do believe that we’ll be able to make up the revenue in our other campaigns. We do have some exciting plans for Daffodil Month, which happens in April, and then we have a Relay for Life that happens up in June in Grande Prairie.”

Anyone who had hoped to donate at this time of year can still get in touch with the Canadian Cancer Society, which is hiring for a Revenue Development Coordinator in Grande Prairie. Plans are still on for a tournament in 2017.
