Grande Prairie Mayor Jackie Clayton has been named vice-chair of the Alberta Mid-sized Cities Mayors’ Caucus.
The group includes 24 mayors from across the province. It meets monthly — usually online — and twice a year in person.
Clayton said the caucus gives mayors a chance to share concerns, trade ideas and find efficiencies. “It’s a great way for us to find efficiencies and solutions that impact us directly,” she said.
Clayton and caucus chair Mayor Acker from Spruce Grove will represent the group when advocating to the provincial and federal governments. Last term, she said, the caucus lobbied for amendments to Alberta’s Election Act.
“The executive specifically represents the 24 municipalities, when advocating to the provincial or federal government about very specific mid-sized city needs. In our advocacy last term, it was in regards to things like advocating for the need’s in election changes in the Elections Act,” Clayton said.
Clayton said she is proud to serve on the executive once again.
“I’m extremely proud to be acclaimed as vice chair. I sat on that executive last term. It’s a great group.”
