County offering up winter safety tips, removal reminders ahead of expected snowfall

The County of Grande Prairie is putting out a few different reminders to help keep the community safe for the upcoming winter season.

The county says some good ways to prepare yourself for the snow is to use caution and reduce driving speeds to the weather conditions, especially when approaching plows, graders, and equipment, allow extra travel time, install winter or snow-rated tires, and to prepare an emergency kit and refuel regularly.

The county would also like to remind residents that during the snow clearing they can expect to see digital no parking signs at hamlet and subdivision entrances, and if the neon sign is lit, there is a temporary parking ban. During the parking bans vehicles must be moved from roadways between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. If your vehicle is not moved, it may be towed.

When shoveling your driveway and sidewalk, the county says it is always a good reminder to put the snow onto your own property, and not the road, as it could cause damage to snow-clearing equipment or vehicles.
