Neighbourhood Outdoor Rink Program applications are now open

Applications for the annual Neighbourhood Outdoor Rink Program in Grande Prairie are now open.

The program is free, and will provide applicants with supplies and training on how to both install and maintain the rink throughout the winter, the city will also have their staff members complete monthly hazard assessment’s on the site.

Grande Prairie Mayor Jackie Clayton says that these rink’s help’s the community get outside and stay active.

“Neighbourhood rinks are a great way for residents to get outside, stay active and connect with their neighbours. This free program makes winter recreation accessible close to home, supporting Council’s priority of enhancing quality of life and building an inclusive and caring community.”

If you or a group are looking to apply, you must have at least five volunteers who will assist with building and maintain the rink. The deadline for applications is December 15th, however, the city is encouraging residents to apply for the program early to allow time for construction before the ground freezes and significant snowfall occurs.
