Rogers Sports & Media has announced it is shifting several of its smaller-market radio stations, including 97.7 Rock CFGP‑FM in Grande Prairie, to a remote-operations model.
The company said the move forms part of a long-term strategy to streamline radio operations and optimise resources across its network.
According to a report by Broadcast Dialogue, the shift will see technical and operational functions managed remotely from centralised locations, while local programming and sales teams continue to serve their respective markets.
Rogers said the change is a strategic decision to position its radio business for long-term success and emphasised that there are no immediate job impacts as part of the transition.
While Rogers is moving to a remote-operations approach, Vista Radio maintains locally staffed stations in Grande Prairie, including 104.7 2day FM CFRI‑FM and the soon-to-be relaunched 96.3 CJGY‑FM, following recent approval by the Canadian Radio‑television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) for Vista Radio’s acquisition of the station from Golden West Broadcasting Ltd.
Vista Radio operates a dedicated local news team, with staff based in the community delivering daily news, local entertainment and coverage of events that matter to Grande Prairie residents.
Vista Radio said its focus remains on providing strong local content and ensuring listeners continue to hear voices from their own community every day.
