Mrs. Rhonda Johnson who is a high school music teacher from Helen E. Taylor School, has been awarded the 2025 Prime Minister’s Teaching Excellent Award.
Mrs. Johnson is now one of the 2,300 educators to win the award since 1994, this year 35 different recipients won the award, out of 175 nominees.
One of the core reasons on why Mrs. Johnson was chosen is because of her continued success in the CBC Music Class Challenge, where both her and her students have placed top 10 nationally three times.
Principial of the school Cindy Young says that Johnson goes the extra step for her students.
“She continuously goes above and beyond to ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed, providing personalized support, feedback, and guidance, creating a classroom atmosphere where all students feel valued and supported.”
A parent of a student who attends the school, says Mrs. Johnsons impact goes further than just music.
“Her impact on the students of Helen E. Taylor School goes beyond traditional music instruction. She consistently goes above and beyond to create engaging, hands-on learning experiences that empower her students to explore and express their creativity. Her ability to inspire her students to produce high-quality work in such a competitive environment speaks volumes about her teaching effectiveness and the genuine care she has for her students’ growth.”
