Public School District replacing MacDonald as Superintendent

Deputy Superintendent Sandy McDonald will be Acting Superintendent for the time being as the Grande Prairie Public School District looks to replace Carol Ann MacDonald. When the board did its review last fall, it decided that now was the time to go in a different direction. Chair John Lehners hopes to have a replacement by this fall.

“It’s pretty rare to find someone mid-year. We’re quite comfortable with Sandy acting in that role; he’s been with the district his entire career so he’s quite familiar with all the people and the processes, so I think we’re in good stead there in the short-term for sure and then we’ll see what happens in the spring when we go out for a call.”

McDonald has been Superintendent since August 2011, and her last day was December 22nd of 2015. Lehners says they’ll be looking for someone with strong leadership skills and a background in curriculum that can implement changes.
