Over the weekend, there were several posts on social media about a so-called backyard breeder in Grande Prairie. Commenters accused them of over breeding their dogs and selling puppies without regard for their health.
Enforcement Services Manager Chris Manuel says the city has “some history” with the breeder but no charges have been laid. He encourages anyone with animal welfare concerns to report them to Enforcement Services, adding he’d be willing to look into complaints about puppy mills in the city.
They’re not considered illegal in Canada, but Alberta has animal welfare legislation in place.
