GPPL launches new inclusive collection

The Grande Prairie Public Library has released a brand new collection of books and toys modified for kids with special needs.

The idea for the collection started when a parent came into the library expressing that there is not a lot of options for books and resources in Grande Prairie for their special needs child. The library began researching for resources, and came across TikTok’s of a mom who adapted books for her autistic son.

The new collection toys and sensory items, and modified books, which include additions like page fluffers, and gems attached to page corners to help kids get a better grip on the page and easier for them to turn it over.

In this collection, you will find switch-adapted toys, these toys are battery-operated and have been wired to connect to a switch, that helps kids with fine motor difficulties or limb differences.

GPPL Children Programmer Emily Rempel is thrilled they’re able to provide a collection and materials for as large a group of people as they can.

“Being able to bridge the gap from the library to people with disabilities has been really awesome.”

This collection is available to anybody in Grande Prairie who may want to borrow these items. You can expect to see this collection grow in the future.

The collection was released on September 10th 2025.
