Loewen settling in to new role as MLA

2015 will likely be an unforgettable year for Valleyview’s Todd Loewen – he was successful in his third run to represent the region as MLA for Grande Prairie – Smoky. Loewen says his win was part of even bigger gains for the Wildrose Party.

“We selected a new leader with the Wildrose in Brian Jean, and we came in to the election working hard and doing the best we could. Of course to gain 21 seats in the election we thought was a really good accomplishment.”

Loewen is the Environment and Parks Shadow Minister and says one of his main focuses in 2016 will be trying to get the NDP to back off on the carbon tax.

“That’s of course a tax on everything and that’s not what Albertans need right now; it’s not what the energy industry needs right now. It’s really just a PST with a different name; as that unfolds we’re be working on that.”

Loewen also plans to keep pushing for healthcare improvements for rural areas in his constituency, as well as keeping the new Grande Prairie Regional Hospital on track. He’s also looking forward to working on the regulations for Bill 6.
