The La Glace county fire department had a paw-full amount of fun on Friday as the celebrated the birthday of one of their own.
Casey, the department’s therapy dog, provides the fire department plenty of help above and beyond a big smile when they’re on duty.
“The idea of having a therapy dog its available to our membership 24/7 its wonderful, to see all the people supporting that I think kind of shows its worth,” says County of Grande Prairie East-District fire chief Bryan Hall.

Hall says Casey comes in very handy when used to bring attention to educational matters as well; including how to keep yourself and what to do if you spot a wildfire and more recently, how to cope with poor air quality.
Hall says when it comes to fire season, whether you’re in the county or in the city, always be aware of your surroundings.
“Just being aware of the conditions, the weather and what’s going on out there, pay attention to the advisories.”
If you do find yourself safe in the wilderness and you come across a blaze or a small bush fire, experts advise you to immediately call 911 and to not put your self in danger.
“Call 911, get us going. Don’t try to put to your self in danger to put things out. Just make sure you know exactly where you are, and how we can get there, so we can start working on helping suppressing the fire.”
