Fire ban lifted in Grande Prairie Forest Area

The fire ban has been lifted in the Grande Prairie and Peace River forest areas.

The fire ban was lifted as of 2 p.m. on Monday, with cooler temperatures and recent rain reducing the areas wildfire risk to moderate.

Although the risk has been reduced Alberta Wildfire officials are reminding the community that wildfires can still start, especially in areas that are dry or there are windy conditions.

People are being encouraged to continue to use caution when it comes to outdoor fires.

Since the beginning of the year, there have been 40 wildfires in the Grande Prairie Forest Area burning 5,821 hectares.

Fire bans are still in effect in the City of Grande Prairie and the County of Grande Prairie.

As well the community is being reminded that if anyone spots a fire in the forest area to report it by calling 310-FIRE (3473).
