Peace Wapiti School Division keeping class sizes down

Class sizes are slightly down in Peace Wapiti School Division. Deputy Superintendent Mark Davidson reports that average class sizes have decreased across all grades. The biggest drop of 1.6 per cent was seen in all subjects for senior high students, while the lowest of 0.2 was in core subjects for junior high classes.

Davidson says they made changes to staffing formulas focused on grades 4 to 9 and on smaller schools, and that’s where the best results have been found. Other initiatives have proven successful, like combining some classes for programs like “Buddy Reading”, where older students help younger ones with their skills.
