2day FM Care for Kids Radiothon reaches goal

It took 12 hours to do it, but the second annual 2day FM Cares 4 Kids Radiothon was a success. The goal of raising more than $16,000 for the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation was realized by 6 p.m. Thursday evening, and it would not have been possible without the generous support of the community of Grande Prairie.

That money will go towards purchasing five brand new, state of the art, vital monitoring systems for the Pediatric Day Surgery Unit at the QEII Hospital, and eventually the new Grande Prairie Regional Hospital. The machines will help track the blood pressure, temperature, heart rate, and blood oxygenation of children both before and after they go in for surgery.

The QEII currently has 10 beds in its pediatric surgery unit, but access to only three of these vital monitoring machines. The new units have wireless capabilities and can provide an
electronic record of vital signs for staff.

Last year the radiothon raised $20,000 and helped the foundation purchase a neo-natal incubator for its neo-natal intensive care unit.
