Community Foundation hands out $139K in grants for 2015

This year the Community Foundation of Northwestern Alberta was able to distribute $139,000 to a number of charitable organizations and post-secondary students in the community. Community Foundation CEO Tracey Vavrek says the community impact grants are handed out each year in order to support the groups and individuals that are out doing work to benefit the community.

$39,000 was divided amongst 43 local post-secondary students, while 30 charitable organizations received grants as well. Vavrek says they were pleased to be able to increase their impact grants by 18 per cent from $117,000 in 2014 this year. She says the awards night was an emotional evening in particular for the students who were chosen to receive grants.

Since the Community Foundation began handing out these endowment fund grants, they have invested more than $4.3 million back in to the community.
