Grande Prairie’s newest millionaire has big plans after lottery win

Grande Prairie has a new millionaire in town after Janet Nett received the news that she won $1 million through Lotto Max.

The winner said she stopped at a Lotto Spot retailer after work to check her tickets, and said she “started shaking” when she saw her winnings on the screen.

“I saw the million dollars come up on the screen and I just froze,” she says. “I called my husband and sent a picture, I think he just about hit the ditch when I told him on the phone!”

Mr. Nett said he wasn’t quite sure exactly how much his wife won at first.

“He said to me- Are you telling me you won $100,000,” she laughs. “I said- I’m telling you I won $1 million.”

Nett says she also told her mother who lives at the senior’s facility she works at. She says her mother was “just so excited” upon receiving the news.

“She was a blabbermouth and told everyone there,” she chuckles.

The winner says she has plenty of plans for her newly found wealth, saying she plans on using some of it to purchase a house, among other things.

“We’ll head into our eventual retirement with zero debt, a fully paid-off house, and two reliable new vehicles.”

Nett adds that the win came at the “perfect time” for her as she plans on going back to school.

“My job is getting more physically demanding and it’s been something I’ve considered for a while, so this came at the perfect time.”

Lastly, Nett says she is excited to travel with her husband, with plans to take her family to Hawaii, before heading to Singapore for a vacation.

She purchased her winning Lotto Max ticket from Circle K at 9109 92nd Avenue in Grande Prairie.
