Police seize more than 200 grams of suspected drugs during proactive patrols in Grande Prairie

The Grande Prairie RCMP has laid charges on one during a proactive patrol in the area of 101st Street on January 20th.

According to police, members initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle before noticing “suspicious behaviour” from the driver, who police say, attempted to exit the vehicle, and attempted to argue with an officer.

After an investigation, the driver, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle, Jonathan Allan Austin, a 41-year-old from Grande Prairie was arrested for alleged possession under $5,000, and seven counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Police additionally seized 224 grams of suspected cocaine, seven grams of suspected methamphetamine, 17 tablets of suspected alprazolam, and 10 units of suspected LSD, among numerous other suspected substances, along with “some general drug paraphernalia, and ammunition.

Austin was brought before a Justice of the Peace and remains in police custody with a court date set for January 22nd at the Alberta Court of Justice in Grande Prairie.
