Donations pouring in to help family of young crash victim

In just five hours, nearly $5,000 has been raised to help the family of a young boy who was killed in a car accident in Grande Prairie.

Four year old Red passed away this morning at the Stollery Children’s Hospital from a head injury.

His mother’s co-worker, Stacy Vanier, has set up a donation page on www.gofundme.com.

“The family is having some financial difficulties and my goal here is to help them, not only with funeral expenses, but also with time lost from work, hopefully some counselling, and their travel expenses that they had going to and from Edmonton.”

Red ‘s mother was seriously injured in the crash, but has since been released, while his sister escaped with reportedly minor injuries.

The driver of the vehicle that is believed to have hit two others before crossing several lanes of traffic on 116th Avenue during rush hour Tuesday morning was also taken to hospital, but an update on their condition is not available.

Vanier says she’s moved by the support so far.

“On the Go-Fund-Me page I had a goal of $3,000 kind of thinking that might have been a little far-fetched, but in three short hours, we had already raised over $2,000. I’m overwhelmed by the community’s generosity.”

People can make donations on the “Angel Red funeral donations” page online or in person at Points West Living.
