Middaugh, Sweeting on to tiebreaker, winner to face Jones in semi

While Rachel Homan suffered her first loss in the round robin at the Home Hardware Canada Cup of Curling Friday evening, she is still headed directly to the women’s finals. Homan lost 6-4 to Sherry Middaugh, ensuring Middaugh a place in the women’s tie breaker against Val Sweeting tomorrow.

Jennifer Jones, meanwhile, is headed to the women’s semi final, after trouncing Alberta’s Val Sweeting 9-3 in just 8 ends. The winner of Saturday’s tie breaker between Middaugh and Sweeting will move on to the semi final. The winner of that match up will be on to the final, which starts for Sunday at 11 am.

Elsewhere in ladies action, Alberta’s Kelsey Rocque beat Tracey Fleury 11-8 in draw 9, but neither team will be moving on.

The men’s action there is currently a three way tie between Pat Simmons, Kevin Koe, and Mike McEwan. All three teams four wins and two losses so far.

MacEwan faced off against team Brad Jacobs in draw 9, earning a 8-6 win, while team Brad Gushue suffered an 8-6 loss at the hands of the John Epping rink. It has been a tough week for Gushue, who has won only two of his six round robin games.

The teams that will be moving on the the men’s semi-final and final this weekend will be determined during the final round robin draw tomorrow morning at 8:30.
