Nominations opened for County of Grande Prairie’s 2025 municipal election

The nomination period for the County of Grande Prairie’s 2025 municipal election has officially begun, with the scheduled voting day set for October 20th.

The county is encouraging all residents who are passionate about their community and are interested in shaping the future of the county to consider running for office. County Manager Joulia Whittleton calls the election a “pivotal moment” for community members who want to get involved.

The municipal election is a pivotal moment for community members to get involved, whether by running as a candidate or by staying informed and ready to vote,” she says. “Council members have a large impact in that they set the direction for our communities.”

The County of Grande Prairie is made up of nine electoral divisions, each represented by one councillor who serves a four-year term. Candidates must submit their completed nomination forms before 12:00 p.m. on Nomination Day, which is set for September 22nd.

Voters should also be mindful of the new requirement to register to vote due to the Province of Alberta’s proposed changes to the Local Authorities Election Act.
