Tight race for Home Hardware Canada Cup men’s finals after draw 8

Draw eight has wrapped up at the Home Hardware Canada Cup are there are only two wins separately first and last place in the men’s division. Former leader Kevin Koe is back in the mix, after Mike McEwen edged out a 5-4 win. Koe is now tied with Pat Simmon’s rink, which won its second game of the day 8-6 against John Epping.

McEwen is now tied for third with Brad Jacobs, after his squad fell 7-6 to Reid Carruthers in extra ends. Brad Gushue pulled off his second win, topping Steve Laycock 9-3, and keeping himself in the playoff hunt with another draw left today.

There was only one women’s match up this afternoon, and after a hot first day in Grande Prairie, it looked like Sherry Middaugh could be out of the playoffs. She was able to steal two in the ninth and one in the tenth to pull off a 7-5 win over Kristy McDonald.

She now has a 3-2 record, putting her in a third place tie with Jennifer Jones behind 5-0 Rachel Homan and 4-1 Val Sweeting. Middaugh has a tough road ahead of her, as she’ll have to beat Homan in draw nine tonight as Jones takes on Sweeting. The women’s tie
