Snowfall warning issued for several communities in Grande Prairie region

A snowfall warning has been issued for much of the Grande Prairie area, with the expectation that 10 to 15 centimetres will fall overnight and into Wednesday.

According to Environment Canada, the areas of Grande Prairie, Beaverlodge, Valleyview, parts of the MD of Greenview, Yellowhead County, and parts of Woodlands County can expect significant snowfall in the next 24 hours.

Officials say snowfall will begin in western Alberta the evening of December 17th and will spread eastward through central Alberta by early Wednesday morning. Environment Canada says the heaviest snow will fall during the day on Wednesday; however, snowfall will taper off by that evening.

Drivers are encouraged to remain prepared to adjust their driving according to the changing road conditions, and should visibility be reduced enough, Environment Canada suggests turning on lights, and maintaining a safe following distance.
