GP Catholic still seeking municipal funding for Arbour Hills theatre

The County of Grande Prairie is going to consider a contribution of one million dollars for the funding of a performing arts theatre for the new GP Catholic school being built in Arbour Hills.

The Catholic School District has made considerable progress in their designs for the project, which will include a 350 seat black box theatre with state of the art audio and LED lighting equipment, a full state screen for projection, and acoustic engineering for perfect sound quality. The theatre is meant to be used not just for school-based programming, but also for the community at large for programs like dance, theatre, and music classes, art galleries, and summer camps.

A request has been made for $2 million from the city of Grande Prairie as well, though that request was not approved during council’s 2016 budget deliberations earlier this month.

The grade 8 to 12 Arbour Hills School is set to open in December of 2017.
