Sheriffs stop alleged drunk driver on Highway 43

A suspected drunk driver was caught after swerving in and out of the ditch and driving the wrong way down Highway 43 Friday night.

Grande Prairie RCMP says they got several calls about a vehicle being driven erratically near Range Road 73 west of the city. Sheriffs spotted it speeding but when they tried to pull the vehicle over, the driver went into the snow-filled median and reversed out of the ditch before stopping.

Fortunately no one was hurt, but Blair Lawson of Cowichan, B.C. was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle. He’s also facing several other criminal charges including refusing to provide a breath sample and two counts of assaulting a police officer, along with speeding.
