AHS lifts several water quality advisories on lakes in the Grande Prairie region

Alberta Health Services has lifted the water quality advisories implemented over the summer in several bodies of water across Alberta, including some in the Grande Prairie area.

According to AHS, water quality, including fecal bacteria levels, has returned to an “acceptable level” and the health risk is now considered low for recreational use of the lakes.

Effective December 2nd, the advisories have been lifted on the Young’s Point Provincial Park Beach Area on Sturgeon Lake, and losegun Lake Beach.

Additionally, Golden Sands Beach, McGrane Beach, and Plamondon White Sands Beach on Lac La Biche Lake, Alberta Beach, and Sunset Point Beach on Lac Ste. Anne, and Calling Lake Provincial Park Beach, and MacFarlane Beach on Calling Lake, are now all open for public recreation use.

Still, the provincial health authority maintains that visitors and residents should never drink or cook with untreated water directly from any lake or reservoir, whether there is a water quality warning in place or not.
