St. Thomas More School celebrates portable grand opening, receives $50K in funding for new playground

The new St. Thomas More Portable School celebrated its grand opening in Fairview on Monday, with an extra special donation to help students really enjoy their new temporary home.

The grand opening was called a “momentous occasion” by the school, with Board Chair Kelly Whalen saying the new space is more than just a classroom.

“[It] is a symbol of our unwavering commitment to providing the best possible environment for our students, our staff, and our entire community,” he says.

In addition to the official ribbon cutting, a new playground is also in the works for the facility thanks to a generous donation from an Alberta operated business.

The $50,000 donation from MODUS Structures will allow officials to create what they call a more exciting space for students to learn, play and grow.

“We’re honoured to be able to help support the community with this new temporary modular school,” says MODUS President and CEO Allan Willms, who was on hand to present the cheque.

School officials say the celebration was a reminder that even in times of transition, there is always a chance for new beginnings and opportunities for growth. The school indicates the opening marks a “renewed” sense of hope and commitment, and the school is looking forward to a “bright year” ahead.
