Year-to-date housing starts improve in October

As of the end of October, housing starts in Grande Prairie are at 52 per cent of where they were at this time last year. At the end of October in 2014 there had been a total of 635 housing starts in the city. This year there have been 327.

Comparing the two months, October 2015 saw construction start on 21 homes in the city, which is down considerably from last October when there were 111 homes started. Grande Prairie has seen dismal numbers for housing starts this year, though performance in October is up slightly from September, when starts fell to 40 per cent of 2014’s pace by the end of the summer.

Multi family homes continue to be more popular than single family homes, though only by a slim margin in October as there were 13 multi and 8 single family home starts in total.
