Traffic signal maintenance begins today, drivers should expect some delays during “off-peak” hours

The City of Grande Prairie has begun the 2024 Traffic Signal Maintenance Program in an effort to ensure the safety and reliability of traffic signals around the city.

According to the city, the project will focus on inspecting and upgrading traffic signal infrastructure at several chosen intersections, and the work is expected to last several weeks depending on the weather.

This year’s intersections include – 92nd Avenue and Resources Road, 84th Avenue and 108th Street, 100th Avenue and 124th Street, and 68th Avenue and 108th Street.

The city is advising drivers that there will be brief periods when signals are offline as crews continue their work. Officials add that the switchovers are planned during “off-peak” hours; however, drivers are still encouraged to use caution and follow all temporary traffic control measures.

Traffic is to remain open in all directions, but road users should anticipate some lane closures and reduced speeds in active construction zones.
