Rona Ambrose takes over interim Conservative Party leadership

Rona Ambrose has been chosen as the interim leader for the federal Conservative Party. The Valleyview-born MP was picked by a preferential ballot process that included Conservative senators. MPs decided earlier today that they would be allowed to take part.

Ambrose is the member of parliament for Sturgeon River-Parkland after representing Edmonton-Spruce Grove since 2004. She is also the outgoing Health Minister.

It’s expected that Ambrose will not be able to run for leadership of the Tories, but the rules for finding Stephen Harper’s replacement won’t be released until January.  She will be the second ever female leader of the party, after former Prime Minister Kim Campbell.
