County doing controlled burn in Dunes area

County firefighters will be doing a controlled burn south of Grande Prairie over the next couple of months. The Crown land they’re focusing on is in the Dunes south of Highway 668 between Highway 40 and Resources Road.

County Fire Marshal Ken Atamanchuk says they’ll be burning piles of trees and pine stands that were infested by the Mountain Pine Beetle. The goal is to get rid of as much fuel as possible to lessen the risk of a wildfire and minimize the impact of any that pop up.

ATVers and the public are asked to avoid the area for safety reasons starting Thursday.
