Peace River-born MP named to Trudeau’s cabinet

An MP born in Peace River has been named to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s first cabinet. Toronto Centre rep Chrystia Freeland is the new Minister of International Affairs.

Two of Alberta’s four Liberal MPs also made the cut. Calgary MP Kent Hehr will be the Minister of Veterans Affairs. Hehr is a quadriplegic on the board of the Canadian Paraplegic Association and was formerly the MLA for Calgary-Buffalo.

Edmonton MP Amerjeet Sohi has been tapped as Minister of Infrastructure and Communities. The former Edmonton city councillor was a political prisoner in India in the 1980s.
