Team Alberta has repeated as Challenge Cup champions. The 2015 Western Canada U16 tournament was held in Calgary over the weekend, with two locals on its roster.
Forward Paycen Bjorklund of the AAA Grande Prairie Storm was on the winning team, along with Grande Prairie Minor Hockey Association technical director Matt Keillor, who acted as video coach.
Team Alberta took a two-nothing lead partway through the first period, and finished the shutout with an empty netter late in the third. This is the squad’s fourth gold medal in the five years of the tournament.
