Pair arrested in Whitecourt jewelry heist

Whitecourt RCMP have two men in custody for the armed robbery of a jewelry store in that community Monday. Police say around 4:45 pm on October 19 a man wearing a balaclava walked into the jewelry store, threatened the clerk with a firearm, and then broke a display case before making off with several pieces.

The man reportedly got into a waiting truck that was being driven by a second man, but RCMP say thanks to the help of witnesses they were able to arrest them both a short time later.

25 year old Carl Gerard Snow of Whitecourt and 20 year old Bradley Dieter Bender of Cherhill have been charged with a number of offences, including robbery with a firearm, possession of a prohibited firearm, being disguised while committing an offence, possession of a stolen vehicle, dangerous driving, and operation of a motor vehicle while being pursued by police.

The pair are scheduled to appear in court on October 27.
