Local chamber to mark Small Business Week in Grande Prairie

Next week is Small Business Week here in Grande Prairie and across Canada. The Chamber of Commerce has planned events to help connect and showcase the local business community, including a women’s luncheon on Tuesday and their business awards reception on Wednesday evening. Chamber CEO Dan Pearcy says it’s important to recognize small business, as it is the backbone of the business community in Canada.

“They represent well over 90 per cent of the businesses that operate in this country and the sweat equity that goes into those operations needs to be recognized for the accomplishments that they’ve achieved and the effort they put into building our community.”

Some of the awards of distinction that will be handed out at Wednesday evening’s reception include small business of the year, young entrepreneur, and service superstar.

Tom Pura with the Chamber says those awards and this week is their way of saying thank you to those that work hard keep our economy growing.

“When your backbone is small business and businesses that are local, that are right there, that have been here, and they know what the area is like and what the people is like, this is our chance to recognized them.”

Other events planned include a Rotary Lunch on Wednesday, and the Chamber Member Business Showcase on Thursday evening.
