Premier establishes panel of experts on the economy

Premier Rachel Notley has enlisted a panel of experts to help her make decisions on the economy. The new Premier’s Advisory Committee has 10 volunteer members that represent industry, labour, non-profits and post-secondary institutions. Notley expects to meet with them quarterly for advice and perspective on growing and diversifying business in Alberta.

“How do we advance technologies and encourage diversification and development of our renewables, and how do we continue to lead our province forward building on our unique economic advantages?”

Notley adds that they’ll be looking at how the province can grow without just relying on the energy industry. Chairing the group is Joseph Doucet, dean of the School of Business at the University of Alberta.

“When we think about diversification we need to think about what the levers are that government and the private sector have at their disposal. We also have to situate our economy within a globally competitive economy thinking about how to attract investment and how to attract qualified workers.”
