Fire prevention focused on bedroom fire alarms

Roughly half of all house fire related deaths happen overnight in Alberta. That statistic is the theme for this year’s Fire Prevention Week, “hear the beep where you sleep”.

As of May 1 2015, building codes stipulate that all new homes in the province must have a fire alarm in each bedroom, but the province is encouraging Albertans to install fire alarms in and around sleeping areas in older homes as well. They should also be installed on every level of your home, including the basement. To mark fire prevention week, all three Grande Prairie Fire halls will be hosting open houses. You can visit the Pete Eager fire station between 4 and 7 this afternoon, the Salmond Fire Station from noon to 4 on Friday, and the Westgate Fire Station from noon to 4 on Saturday.
