St. Joe’s students tackle cancer fundraiser

The St. Joe’s Catholic High School Celtics Football team and student council are hoping to inspire their fellow students to raise money for cancer research. The school’s goal is to raise $5000 by the time the football team plays Fort McMurray on October 8. Students will be able to exchange a $2 donation for an afternoon of football.

The school is also setting up popcorn and hot dog sales to raise money, and students have been offered an opportunity to buy back late marks for $1 or detentions for a $5 until October 8. If the $5000 goal is met, a number of male teachers at the school have offered to wear pink dresses on game day to show their support.

Other schools in the Grande Prairie Catholic School District have been encouraged to take part by dressing up in pink or blue and bringing a donation to school on October 5. The money raised will be split in half and donated to both breast cancer and prostate cancer research.
